Deployment errors on NW 7.1 CE for MDM portal content

Symptom
While deploying MDM portal content to SAP NetWeaver CE,
MDM_JAVA_API was deployed successfully but BP_MDM_APPLICATION and
BP_MDM_TECHNOLOGY encountered error during deployment
Reason and Prerequisites
The MDM Portal Content delivered with MDM 5.5 and MDM 7.1 is designed for NW 7.0. The content is packaged as follows:
1) BP_MDM_APPLICATION – BPMDMAPPLIxx_xx.sca
2) BP_MDM_TECHNOLOGY – BPMDMTECHNxx_xx.sca
In addition, it requires the deployment of the MDM Java API and connector component:
3) MDM_JAVA_API – MDMJAVAAPIxx_xx.sca
Solution
MDM standard Portal content (iViews) are supported on SAP NetWeaver 2004 and SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s). At this time, there are no plans to migrate the content to be compatible to SAP NetWeaver CE 7.1.

“Illegal value for parameter” error when uploading PDF/Image

Symptom
You are trying to upload a new PDF/Image file to the MDM PDF/Image Table using the MDM Portal iViews but receiving a “com.sap.mdm.internal.protocol.manual.ServerException: Illegal value for parameter” error.

Reason and Prerequisites
When uploading a PDF/Image file to the PDF/Image Table using the MDM Portal iViews, the PDF/Image is uploaded without a thumbnail while the MDM Server is expecting to get it with a thumbnail.
Solution
Make sure that the repository in question has “Allow invalid PDFs” property set to “Yes”.
To do that please perform the following steps:
1. Log on to the MDM Console.
2. Connect to the repository which the MDM iViews are connected to.
3. Right-Click on the repository and select “Properties”.

How to upload a MDM Portal iViews custom .PAR file

Symptom
You have been requested by SAP support to upload a special customized .PAR file to your Portal environment.

Solution
In order to upload the custom .PAR file, please perform the following steps:
1. Log on to you Portal.
2. Go to “System Administration”->”Support”.
3. Under “Top Level Areas” select “Portal Runtime”.
4. Under “”Portal Anywhere” Admin Tools” select “Administration Console”.
5. Under “Archive Uploader” click “Browse” and select the custom .PAR file you would like to upload to your Portal.
6. Click “Upload”.
7. Check that you see a confirmation message stating that the archive was successfully uploaded.
8. Log off and log back on to the Portal.

Numbers after decimal point displayed differently- MDM iView

Symptom
Formatting of MDM Real, Measurement or Currency field types with 1 or more digits after the decimal point appear to be different when comparing these fields in Item Details Edit mode to Item Details View mode.

You have created a MDM Standard Item Details iView and that includes either a Real, Measurement or Currency field. Field formatting in view mode is done according to the MDM Console settings (e.g. Decimal places, Dimension etc.) using the MDM Java API, while for edit mode, formatting is handled by generic portal formatting infrastructure.

Reason and Prerequisites
MDM Standard Portal iViews formatting of dates and numbers are determined at runtime according to the portal users language property. (If this property is empty, the setting will be set according to the Browser Language Preferences settings).
Note that adjustments to this property also impact the MDM data and MDM metadata language.
Solution
To modify this property in the portal, go to Personalize -> User Profile. In the General Information tab, select the Language property value according to which all formatting will be applied (e.g. If you set the language property to ‘English[US]‘ then the date format will be displayed as 5/27/2008, while if set to ‘German[DE]‘ [...]

MDM Portal iViews display issue with Arabic language

Symptom
You have created an MDM Item details iView and trying to display it with Arabic as the display language. However, the iView is not displayed correctly.

Solution
Check to see if the Portal theme you are using supports Arabic by changing the Portal theme to a different one and testing to see if the iView is displayed correctly.

MDM Item Details iView – “Record is protected” message

Symptom
When trying to edit a record via MDM Portal Item Details iView you see a message that “Record is protected, record is checked out” and you can not edit it. Trying to edit the same record with the Data Manager is possible without the protected-error.

When you first select the record in the Portal (before you check it
out), the selected recordID is of the Original record.
Once you log to the Data Manager and check-out the same record, a new checked-out record is created (you can see this by selecting “All versions” in the Data Manager). Now, when you return to the Portal and try to work on the Original record, you get a message saying “record is [...]

“Insufficient rights” error when duplicating a record – MDM

Symptom
While attempting to duplicate a record, an error occurs saying “Insufficient rights for operation” although it seems that the user has all the required permissions

Reason and Prerequisites
When duplicating a record, MDM tries to save the duplicated record to the repository. A user must have “Read/Write” permissions to all fields in order to add data to a certain record. Consequently, if a certain user tried to duplicate a record he must have “Read/Write” permissions to all populated fields.
Solution
Make sure that the user that is duplicating records has “Read/Write” permissions to all populated fields.
