Solution

This note describes how to install the extractor in your MDM client systems. In the attachment, the note contains the required transport files and the complete documentation.
The note is updated on request. A change history is provided at the end of the note. Refer to the related notes in the attachments.

Components of the extractor and standard system

The generic extractor consists of the following components:
1. Release-independent core (package MDM_GX_CORE_RI)
As of Basis Release 6.20, the core is executable and contains the Customizing functions with all relevant objects.2. Release-independent core (package MDM_GX_CORE_RD)
The MDM_GENERIC_EXTRACTOR extraction program and the used service class are contained in this package. There are two versions: one version for Release 6.20 and one version for Release 6.40 and higher.
The core components are delivered as standard with the following Support Packages:
PI_BASIS 2005.1_620 Support Package 10
PI_BASIS 2005.1_640 Support Package 10
PI_BASIS 2005.1_700 Support Package 10
PI_BASIS 2006.1_620 Support Package 0
PI_BASIS 2006.1_640 Support Package 0
PI_BASIS 2006.1_700 Support Package 0
PI_BASIS 2006.1_710 Support Package 03. ERP and R/3-specific functions (package MDM_GX_ERP)
This package contains special functions, that are required to extract certain R/3 and ERP Customizing data. This data (for example, control class data) cannot be processed generically and is extracted using special function modules (see section “Function Modules for Exceptional Cases” in the documentation).
The MDM_GX_ERP package is delivered for R/3 and ERP releases as of 4.70.
It is delivered by default for:
PI 2004.1_470 Support Package 14
PI 2004.1_500 Support Package 14
SAP_APPL 600 Support Package 064. CRM and SRM-specific functions (package MDM_GX_COMM)
As for ERP, there are special functions for CRM and SRM data (for example, for the extraction of product hierarchies).
For all CRM/SRM releases, the MDM_GX_COMM package is delivered with SAP_BASIS and SAP_ABA 6.40 or higher.
It is delivered by default for:
PI_BASIS 2005.1_640 Support Package 10
PI_BASIS 2005.1_700 Support Package 10
PI_BASIS 2006.1_620 Support Package 0
PI_BASIS 2006.1_640 Support Package 0
PI_BASIS 2006.1_700 Support Package 0
5. Special version for R/3 4.6C
This special version is a version of the MDM_GX_CORE_RI, MDM_GX_CORE_RD and MDM_GX_ERP packages that is adjusted for R/3 4.6C. The 4.6C version has some restrictions (for example, STRINGs are not used in Customizing tables).
It is delivered with PI 2004.1_46C Support Package 14.

Delivery using preliminary transports

If your client systems do not yet have the Support Package levels listed above, you can obtain the extractor by importing the relevant preliminary transports.
For the client systems supported by MDM 5.5 Support Package 4, the following preliminary transports are available.

R/3 4.6C
XX8K010502 – All 4.6C Objects
XX8K010159 – Standard Customizing 4.6CR/3 Enterprise 4.70
YYAK000898 – Core Objects PI_BASIS 2005.1_620
YYAK000897 – Standard Customizing PI_BASIS 2005.1_620
XXAK010152 – ERP Objects PI 2004.1_470ERP 2004 (ECC 500):

YYBK000903 – Standard Customizing PI_BASIS 2005.1_640CRM 5.00, SRM 5.00:
YYCK001328 – Core/Comm Objects PI_BASIS 2005.1_700
YYCK001327 – Standard Customizing PI_BASIS 2005.1_700

Import the preliminary transports in the sequence listed above. Note 13719 contains further details. It is important that you follow the sequence. You must ensure that the table definitions are available before you implement the standard Customizing.
After you import the transport, change the extractor packages (development classes) MDM_GX_CORE_RI, MDM_GX_CORE_RD, MDM_GX_COMM, MDM_GX_ERP using transaction SE80. Assign the packages to the “SAP” transport layer and enter “SAP*” as the person responsible. The assignment to the “SAP” transport layer is important so that any correction notes that may be required at a later stage can be automatically implemented using the SAP Note Assistant.

Restrictions

The extractor delivered in advance with this note still has the following restrictions, some of which are solved by later Support Packages:
It is only available in English – translations into other languages are not available. There is no IMG menu (Implementation Guide). All functions can be accessed using report transaction MDMGX.No online documentation. For the complete documentation, see the attachment to this note. There is no view maintenance for Customizing tables MDMGXC1 (Ports and Check-Tables) and MDMGXC2 (Function Module Parameters for Exceptional Cases). You can carry out table maintenance using transaction MDMGX with the standard table display SE16.The “process level” as described in the documentation has not been implemented yet.Standard Customizing is only delivered for the new Support Package 4 repositories. You can continue initializing the Support Package 3 repositories (customer, vendor, material, and employee) using the extraction reports from Note 830864.
